Month of November—After-School Fun Time

Both children and teens are invited to stop by Monday through Friday from 3:30-5:00 p.m. to unwind after school. Cards,board games, and coloring sheets will be set up on tables in the Children’s Area.

Tuesdays in November from 2:00-4:00 p.m.–Writing Center

Do you have stories (fiction or nonfiction) that need editing and revising?  Stop by the Circulation Desk on any Tuesday afternoon and ask for help with short pieces of writing. The Writing Center is located at the tables in the Reference area.

Wednesdays in November at 10:30 am–Story Time!

Stories, music, movement, and crafts are offered for our “littlest” library friends. Toddlers and preschoolers are invited to join the fun!

Thursday, November 2nd, at 6:30 p.m.—Writers’ Workshop

This session begins our monthly Writing Workshop to be held on the first Thursday of every month. Bring a piece of your writing to share and critique with the group or simply listen and enjoy others’ work. This event will be held in the Community Room.

Tuesday, November 7th — Election Day Sweet Treat

Exercise your civic duty and celebrate Election Day. Stop by the Circulation Desk and show us your “I Voted” sticker andbe rewarded with a sweet treat.

Tuesday, November 7th, at 2:00 p.m. & Thursday, November 9th, at 6:30 p.m. — Online Yearbook Classes

Learn how to access 100 online yearbooks from Alleghany County, Bath County, Clifton Forge, Covington, Jefferson, Millboro, and Watson high schools (circa 1921-1977). There is no charge for participation, but registration is required.  Stop by the Circulation Desk or call the AHRL to sign up for either class.

Wednesday, November 8th, at 2:30 p.m.–AHRL Book Club

The Alleghany Highlands Regional Library Book Club will meet in the Community Room to discuss Commonwealth by Ann Patchett.

Tuesday, November 14th : Sessions at 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. — S.T.E.A.M. Machine: Primary & Secondary Colors

Children in grades K-5 are invited to join us for our new S.T.E.A.M. Program! This session offers kids hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, art and math to engage their curiosity and improve their problem-solving skills.

Thursday, November 16th, from 1:30-7:30 p.m. — Kids’ Make & Take Thanksgiving Craft

Children are invited to stop by the Children’s Area to create a Thanksgiving turkey ornament. No registration is required.

Thursday, November 23rd, Friday, November 24th, & Saturday, November 25th — Library Closed

The AHRL will be closed on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in celebration of the Thanksgiving holidays.

Tuesday, November 28th, at 6:30 p.m.–LEGO Builders

Children from ages 6-12 are invited to join an AHRL staff member for this hands-on, fun, and educational program. The AHRL will provide LEGOs. No registration is required.
