Month of September—National Library Card Sign-up Month
Do you have the “Smartest Card” in your wallet? If not, register for an AHRL card any time during the month of September. All area residents who sign up for new cards will have their names entered for a prize drawing!
Month of September—After-School Fun Time
Both children and teens are invited to stop by after school Monday through Friday from 3:30-5:00 p.m. to unwind after school. Cards, board games, and coloring sheets will be set up on tables in the Children’s Area.
Saturday, September 2nd, and Monday, September 4th —Library Closed
The Alleghany Highlands Regional Library will be CLOSED in observance of Labor Day.
Thursday, September 7th, from 1:30 until 7:30 p.m. —Kids’ Make & Take Craft
Children are invited to stop by the Children’s Area to make craft stick apple cores to celebrate autumn.
Wednesday, September 13th, at 2:30 p.m. —AHRL Book Club
The Alleghany Highlands Regional Library Book Club members will meet in the Community Room to discuss Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly.
Saturday, September 16th—National Play-Doh Day
Celebrate National Play-Doh Day by using your imagination. Play-Doh will be set up in the Children’s Area for kids to create masterpieces that they can take home with them.
Saturday, September 16th—Digital Literacy Classes
As part of our continuing Digital Literacy series, we’ll offer three classes in the Computer Learning Lab:
10 a.m.—Microsoft Word Basics
11 a.m. —Microsoft Excel
1 p.m. —Social Media Safety for Students
Registration is required, and each class will be limited to ten participants.
Stop by the AHRL or call at 962-3321 to sign up for one or more classes.
September 16th – 30th—Comic Book Scavenger Hunt
Celebrate National Comic Book Day with a scavenger hunt! Both children and adults are invited to complete thehunt and have their names entered in a contest for a prize drawing!
Monday, September 18th, 1:00-3:00 p.m. —Voter Registration
Celebrate U.S. Constitution Day! Representatives from the Alleghany County and Covington City Registrar’s offices will be set up in the Reading Area to register voters or complete change-of-address forms in order to vote in the November general election.
Thursday, September 21st, and Thursday, September 28th
Clever & Catchy Creative Writing Class
Join the AHRL staff as we harness our creativity and try our hands at writing fiction. Classes will be held in the Computer Learning Lab at 6:30 p.m. on consecutive Thursday evenings from September 21st to October 12th. There is no cost to participants, but registration is required. Stop by the AHRL or call at 962-3321 to sign up for classes.
Tuesday, September 26th, at 6:30 p.m. —LEGO Builders
Children from ages 6-12 are invited to join an AHRL staff member for this hands-on, fun, and educational program. The AHRL will provide LEGOs. No registration is required.
