The Friends of the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library (also called “the Friends” or “FOL”) is an volunteer organization that supports library projects and programs.  Their efforts fund the majority of children’s programming and the library’s annual Summer Reading Program. They also help keep the library beautiful by providing funds for grounds maintenance.

All members serve four-year terms.  A maximum of two (2) consecutive terms may be served, with a one (1) year break following the 2^nd term required before any member is allowed to serve again.

The Mission of the AHRL Foundation is to support and enrich the programs and services of the Library and to support the further expansion and growth of the Library by seeking financial contributions from corporate, foundation, and private sources.

Each year in May, the Alleghany Highlands Regional library participates in the “Give Local Alleghany Highlands” campaign which focuses on a county wide day of giving to local non-profit organizations.  It is a chance to support and grow these incredible programs’ ability to do good right here in our hometown.  In 2024, more than $490,000.00 was raised by 479 donors IN ONE DAY!
